Book Store Documentation

Open a FrameMaker book. From the main FrameMaker toolbar, click Zenserve > Book Store... You are presented with the Book Store dialog box. You can also display the dialog box by pressing Esc z b s.

The Book Store dialog box is divided into two functional areas: the Book Store panel, and the Source Folder Cleanup panel. Both are described below.

Book Store Panel

Book Store Panel

The Book Store panel contains the text fields used by the tool to determine:

  • The name and location of the folder that will contain your stored book
  • What to call the subdirectories that hold any images and text insets used within the project

By default, the Storage folder name field contains the name of your book file. This information is used to create a folder that will contain the stored book. If you decide to change this information, your entry must not contain any of the following characters:

  • \ / : * ? < > |

Note: If you attempt to use illegal characters, or leave the field blank, you are warned by the plugin.

The Image folder name field contains the name given to the folder that will hold any images used by your project. Similarly, the Text inset folder name field contains the name given to the folder that will hold any text insets used by your project. As before, if you decide to change the default names, your entry must not contain any illegal characters.

Note: The image and text inset folder names you provide are stored in a configuration file and are used as the default properties the next time you use the tool.

The checkboxes to the right of the Image and Inset folder name fields allow you to decide if images or insets are archived. If your project does not contain any images or insets, the archival process is speeded up if you disable either (or both) of these fields.

The Storage folder path field contains the destination path for your storage directory. You can either enter the file path directly, or click the ellipsis button to the right and select the path from a file tree.

Note: If you attempt to use an invalid path, or if the tool detects that the destination path and storage folder already exist, you are warned by the plugin.

Once you have specified a name for your storage, text inset, and image folders, and chosen a destination path, you can run the tool by clicking OK.

Note: A book window must be selected for the utility to operate. If no book is open, you are warned that tool has no input focus and cannot run.

When the tool is executed, all the component files in the source project are copied and centralized into the storage directory. Any images and text insets used by the project are copied into subdirectories of the storage directory, and all associated file paths are corrected. Once the procedure is complete, the storage directory contains only the files used by your project.

Note: Please note that Book Store does not archive OLE objects.

Source Directory Cleanup Panel

Source Directory Cleanup Panel

This panel contains a number checkboxes corresponding to various different file types. These are:

  • FrameMaker recovery files (*.recover.*)
  • FrameMaker backup files (*.backup.*)
  • FrameMaker lock files (*.lck)
  • PostScript files (*.tps, *.ps)
  • Printer files (*.prn)
  • Text files (*.txt, *.log)
  • Acrobat PDF files (*.pdf)
  • Acrobat comment files (*.fdf)

The above file types are commonly produced during the construction of a FrameMaker book and often end up littering the directory containing the project files. You can use the Book Store plugin to ensure that your source directory is free of unnecessary files.

Select the checkboxes corresponding to the files you want to remove. If you only want to run a cleanup on your source directory without storing your book as well, ensure that the Cleanup only checkbox at the top of the dialog is selected.

Warning: The cleanup process is recursive - every subdirectory in your book's project folder is searched, and matching files are deleted permanently. Always exercise caution when carrying out cleanup activities.

Click OK. You are notified when the cleanup process is complete.
